"Purwell Estate" in Hitchin |
Hitchin, just as Baldock is an old market town where the roads in the older parts tend to be narrow with very little off-street parking, so a lot of parked cars and oncoming traffic to cope with.
As with Stevenage, Letchworth and Baldock, there are areas that are used for the beginner. Go to Purwell on any day and you will find several driving school cars there – it is a great place for beginners to practice the basics.
As learner drivers become more confident, Westmill Estate becomes a challenging area to practice “giving way” and coping with all junction types.
When the time comes for the test to be taken, most people in Hitchin opt to take their test from Letchworth Test Centre.
Hitchin also features in some of the Letchworth Test Routes. One route would take the test candidate along ‘Old Hale Way’ leading into ‘Arlesey Road’, then into Ickleford. Take care when approaching the ‘mini roundabout’ here, as the approach to this roundabout can be confusing if you don’t have your wits about you.
The area around Ninesprings Road is also visited by some test routes, and can also be an invaluable area for teaching ‘awareness and planning’.
