baldock high street |
Baldock, Hertfordshire is north of Stevenage and just east of Letchworth.
Baldock is a small, thriving market town, but does not have a test centre. Learner drivers from Baldock usually take their driving test in Letchworth.
Baldock is on the route for some tests from Letchworth test centre, but usually as through route, rather than an area where the test candidate is to use the allotted 38mins being tested.
If you are unfamiliar with the roads in and around Baldock, here are a couple of thing to keep an eye out for:
- When driving from Letchworth to Baldock, watch out for the speed limit change, a few hundred metres before the new traffic lights at the junction of Letchworth Road and Weston Way, and again at the end of Whitehorse Street.
- Keep an eye on the traffic lights when turning left into Station Road, there is a filter in operation here.
- Turning right at Station Road takes you into Clothall Road and on to Clothall Estate - a good area to take learner drivers for their practice - there is a good circuit here for beginners with a roundabout, junctions, bends and a nice quiet length of road where the ‘Emergency Stop’ or the ‘Turn in the Road’ can be practiced.
- On the 16th March 2006, the Baldock bypass was opened, decongesting the High Street. The bypass is also part of test routes from Letchworth, there are slip roads, (deceleration and acceleration lanes), that should be practiced, ‘Highway Code’ rule 259.
- If you are joining the bypass from the roundabout end - BEWARE - many drivers seem to think it is safe to turn right at the roundabout from the left lane.
